St Michael’s has been climbing the ladder of success faster than ever and the view from the top is mesmerizing.

The St Michael’s Chapel Choir was crowned as the best Non-Afrikaans Choir in South Africa at the ATKV Applous Choir Competition in Port Elizabeth on 6 August 2015. Congratulations to all the pitch-perfect young ladies, Mrs Marilise van Rooyen and Dr Johan Cromhout.

Lopang Leeuw (Grade 9) and Jasca de Abreu (Grade 6) both placed first in their respective age groups at the Motheo rounds of the Youth Summit, flying the St Michael’s flag high. Amber-leigh Janse Van Rensberg whisked up the competition and was named Chef of the Year after a contest at the FBI (Food And Beverage Institute). The proof really is in the pudding.

SMS also excelled on the sportsfield. Our U/18 B hockey team won the league after beating Oranje’s fourth team in the finals with the help of Mr Van Wyk and Mrs Auths. Well done to Siyamkela Modiakgotla, our head girl, on being selected as an under 17 Netball ‘Cheetah”! Our Squash B team took everybody by surprise, winning the ladies’ league!

Busi Mavundla and Tshidi Monnapula achieved distinctions in the National Accounting Olympiad, scooping 2 of 4 distinctions in the Free State. You must give them CREDIT for their hard work.

Our very own scientists Vicky Feng, Ntoetse Molapo, Skye du Toit and Lineo Monokoane were recently placed in the top 50 in the Free State Science Olympiad and were invited to attend a science convention at Potchefstroom University from 16-18 August. Neo Kabi has been watching the news and reading the newspapers as she came first in the province in the World Knowledge Olympiad (Grade 12 section) .

The ladder only gets higher and St Michael’s ladies only get stronger and faster.
