Curriculum

St Michael’s offers all learning areas as required by the Free State Department of Education, according to the CAPS curriculum up to Grade 9.

From Grades 10-12, learners may choose from a wide variety of subjects. Learners with differing interests and career choices are accommodated.

Our subject package is geared to ensure that every Grade 12 learner can leave school with a Bachelor’s pass (university admission).

Compulsory subjects:

  • English Home Language
  • Afrikaans First Additional Language
  • Mathematics OR Mathematical Literacy
  • Life Orientation

Electives:

  • Geography
  • Accounting
  • History
  • Visual Art
  • Music
  • Consumer Studies
  • Business Studies

Eighth subjects

  • Speech and Drama
  • Sesotho Second Additional Language
  • Computer Application Technology (CAT)
  • Information Technology (IT)

Learners who wish to take other subjects, e.g. third languages and Engineering and Graphic Design, generally make arrangements with private teachers who submit their marks to the school.
